How to Clean A Mixer Grinder Body

How to Clean A Mixer Grinder Body

Chances are you use your mixer grinder for a lot of tough food prep jobs. After all, that is what they are built for. As such, your mixer grinder has probably seen better days. The fact is that it’s very hard to keep the body of your mixer grinder clean because by definition, they perform the hard, messy jobs that you can’t do by hand.

For this reason, a lot of people shy away from cleaning the outside of their mixer grinder because the stains and messes tend to be as tough as the machine itself. However, if you’re mixer grinder hasn’t been cleaned in months, it is probably an eyesore in your kitchen.

We want to let you know that you don’t have to avoid cleaning your mixer grinder body because there are very easy and effective methods for doing so. Learn about it and other mixer grinder tips in the following article.

The Lemon and Vinegar Method

We love this method for multiple applications in the kitchen and around the house because it’s natural, sanitary, safe and most of all effective. For this cleaning method you will only need some distilled white vinegar, a spray bottle, warm water and about 3 medium sized lemons. Here’s what you do:

  • Squeeze the lemon juice into your spray bottle but hand on to the lemon peels
  • Add about a half a cup of white distilled vinegar into the bottle
  • Add about a cup of warm water into the spray bottle
  • Spray the outside of your grinder mixer with the lemon/water/vinegar solution and let the solution sit for about a minute
  • Using the lemon peels, rub the solution into the mixer body like you would with a rag

You should start to see some of the stains and dirt being wiped away with the lemon peels. If the peels are hard to work with your hands or simply aren’t getting the job done, you can use a clean rag, sponge or washcloth instead.

The lemon juice and vinegar combo do a great job of cutting through and neutralizing grease and other food debris.

The Baking Soda Method

This method works best when you have a soft-bristled cleaning brush on hand. If you don’t have a brush you can use, you can always use an old tooth brush or a rag that has a bit of grit to it. All you will need for this method is baking soda, a spoon or mixing wand, the brush/rag and some warm water. Here’s how it works:

  • In a medium-size bowl, pour about half a cup of regular baking soda
  • Add just under a half cup of warm water to the baking soda in the bowl
  • Using a spoon or mixing wand (basically anything you can use to mix with), whip the mixture until it forms a semi-viscous paste
  • Spread the paste onto the body of the mixer grinder by simply pouring it directly onto the surface. You can also use your hands for better coverage
  • Let the mixture of water and baking soda set on the mixer grinder body for 10-15 minutes (be sure it doesn’t completely dry out)
  • Then, take you brush or rag and gently scrub the mixture into the body of the mixer

You should see the baking soda/water paste clear away the stains and grease from the outside of the mixer grinder. Once you are satisfied with the results, simply wash the mixture away with water.

The Alcohol Method

We only recommend using this technique if there are really tough stains and odors lingering on your mixer grinder body. All you will need is some rubbing alcohol, water and your sink or a vessel large enough to soak your mixer in. Here are the steps:

  • Fill your sink or vessel with hot water
  • Add about half a medium-sized bottle of rubbing alcohol to the sink or vessel and set the mixer grinder in
  • Let the mixer grinder soak for 10-15 minutes
  • Then, drain the sink or vessel and thoroughly hand wash your mixer grinder with dish soap and a sponge

You may need to hand wash the mixer more than once after it has soaked. Again, we only recommend this method for severe stains and odors.

Whatever method you use, be sure to clean your mixer grinder body as often as possible (preferably after every use) to avoid tough stains and odors.
